Mining tires

There is a glut of giant OTR tires which represents tons of rubber and steel piled up in decades of mining activities that have yet to be disposed of. This neglect creates issues for man and for the environment, not to mention the high costs for companies to deal with these improperly disposed of tires. Urgent action including specific solutions and innovative technologies can provide realistic tangible answers.

THE WASTE
IN MINING TIRES SECTOR

There are over 6,000 open-pit mines worldwide, with massive vehicles with giant short-lasting tires. Over one million of non-recycled tires are abandoned in landfills every year.

Salvadori’s technologies allow this issue to be tackled directly at the mine. By reducing the tire volume on site which eliminates transportation costs and promotes complete tire recycling including transforming waste tires into new desirable earth friendly products. In this way, Salvadori helps companies solve a critical environmental issue, while driving the circular economy.

Phase I. DOWNSIZING

Specific Salvadori equipment can handle tires of up to 4 m of diameter and 5,000 kg of weight on site. By reducing them into small pieces that can be processed in the following step (shredding, energy recovery, pyrolysis).

Phase II. SHREDDING

The shredding plants process the tire pieces into separate materials: steel for foundries, textile fibres and rubber in the form of crumb or dust that can be further processed to produce a wide range of recycled products.

Phase III. TECHNICAL Products PRODUCTION

Salvadori moulding and colouring plants, transform the crumb rubber and dust into a a wide range of recycled products. The main applications range from sports surface to playground flooring, from acoustic insulating sheets to urban furniture, synthetic mulch, infill for artificial turf sports fields, and rubber encased rail transport components.
