We have a global epidemic of end of life tires which are abandoned or are piling up in landfills, with catastrophic consequences on our environment. These tires pose a critical risk to human health and are an economic burden for the regions that are affected.
THE WASTE IN TIRES SECTOR
Poor biodegradability, high risk of fire, toxic emissions, atmosphere and groundwater contamination, stagnation of rainwater along with insect proliferation: these are just some of the critical issues caused by tires that are not recycled correctly.
Salvadori’s recycling equipment, will help dispose of used tire build-ups, by providing an end to end solution that promotes the recycling of tires and creates new raw materials.
This end to end approach, is the best strategy to transform tires from waste into a valuable resource, from cost into an economic benefit for companies and delivers an environmental benefit for everyone, as we fulfil the circular economy vision.
Phase I. DOWNSIZING
The first step specifically targets large tires (trucks, earthmoving and mining equipment), and utilizes machines designed specifically to remove the metal from the tire beads, then reduce 60-5000 kg tires into small pieces that can be processed in the following step (being it shredding, energy recovery, pyrolysis or others).
Phase II. SHREDDING
Salvadori can count on several shredding plants supplier. The shredding plant process tire pieces and separate their materials: steel for foundries, textile fibres and rubber in the form of crumb or dust that can be further processed to produce technical articles.
Phase III. TECHNICAL Products PRODUCTION
Salvadori moulding and colouring plants transform the crumb rubber and dust (new raw material) into a wide range of recycled products. The main applications range from sports surface to playground flooring, from acoustic insulating sheaths to urban furniture, synthetic bark, infill for artificial turf sports fields, and rubber encased rail transport components.
